Swaling on Dartmoor

Tracey Elliot-Reep Dartmoor Fire Moor Swaling

Swaling takes place on Dartmoor before the end of March each year. If it stops raining long enough for the land to dry out a little, the farmers who have grazing rights on the moor burn off areas of gorse to make room for new growth for their livestock. To see more of what happens on Dartmoor throughout the year please take a look at my Dartmoor Days book https://traceyelliotreep.com/collections/dartmoor-books
