Tracey
is currently compiling a photographic book of
her adventurous 2007 ride by faith, from Mexico to
Canada. She left the Rio Grande River with her quarter horses
Smokey and Pistol in mid April and rode north through Texas and
New Mexico. She then followed the Rocky Mountains through Colorado,
Wyoming and Montana where she crossed the border into Canada at
the end of September.
It was an amazing journey! When I was seven
I used to charge around Widecombe in the Moor, in the South West
of England on my little Dartmoor pony playing cowboys and Indians!
So my dream came true this year when I rode through the rugged
and stunning West of the United States of America, met its extremely
hospitable people and had an incredible adventure!
Update October
'07 Once
again we attempted to cross over the Continental Divide on our long
journey following the Rocky Mountains. This time, over Two Medicine
Pass in Glacier National Park, but we had to turn back as the snow
was getting too deep to see the track across the Pass, (an abrupt
introduction for Sandy who was joining me for a few days riding!)
Tacking up Smokey with my Bronco Poley. This saddle has definitely
been a luxury on this ride of several thousand miles from Mexico
to Canada!
We
were invited to the Blackfeet Reservation and were guests on Les
and Stacey Costel’s beautiful Fox Creek Ranch, where they
were doing the autumn round up of cattle. It was great to have
some members of the Blackfeet tribe ride with me for the finale
at the Canadian Border.
Tracey grew up on a farm in South West England where she now has
her base producing cards, calendars and books. After completing
art college she worked and sketched the animals in a travelling
circus and then travelled through Europe and North America, teaching
horse riding before qualifying as a photographer in South Wales.
For five years she worked as a freelance photojournalist for magazines,
during which time she interviewed Royalty at Buckingham Palace,
and in 1990, she rode the length of New Zealand.
She
started her card business thirteen years ago with six local postcards
while living in a caravan with her dog. Her faith and her love of
horses, adventure and photography has taken her to many places including
Africa, Tibet, Israel and Russia. More recently she has ridden horses
from the top of Scotland to Lands End, across Ireland and Wales
and has published two photographic books on her rides through New
Zealand and Southern Ireland.
In December
2006 Tracey rode her palomino horses from Wanaka in the south
Island of New Zealand to Taupo in the North Island. In January
she finished her trek up the East Coast of the North Island with
a win on her mare Favour at the beach races near Tolaga Bay.
